I don't know if it's confirmed but they said if a deal isn't reached soon there taking away the Christmas games. FUCK.

I don't ever have time to watch those anyway. But if they're already taking December games away, we're in trouble.

The Players aren't striking. The Owners caused this lock out, the players just refuse to give in to the owners demands. ...so they're striking

It's not striking. It's a lockout. There's a difference. ;p

I thought the players are refusing to play (i.e. striking) because owners won't play to their demands.

I thought the players are refusing to play (i.e. striking) because owners won't play to their demands. No, its the exact opposite. The owners are locking the players out. What that means is until a deal is made between The Owners and The Players Union, the players cannot enter the gyms, arenas, etc, and cannot have personal contact with anyone (outside of other players) who works for the league. For example, a player named Chris Paul was not able to have his best friend (who happens to be a janitor at one of the NBA Arenas) be the best man in his wedding due to the lock out. The players want the lock out to end. Obviously so do the fans. The players know they need to play to keep in shape. Some have even gone to play in Europe or China leagues. The only people who want the lockout or "strike" are the owners, and the (corrupt) commissioner of the NBA, David Stern. But their demands are so stupid and cheap, that the players won't give in as that would give players now and in the future so much less money, when they are the SOLE reason people watch. Not the owners.

Sodding owners That does make sense now. But, surely, if the players would just accept the terms, then they could start playing. Don't the players already make obscene amounts of money?

The minimum salary for a player is 400,000 american dollars/season. That is quite alot and most players make over a million/season. But the owners all make more than them as it is. It's really the rich battling the rich on a money issue, so yeah its silly on both sides. But the players are the ones who make the league money, hence the reason why I side with them, and why they refuse to take basically a 10% drop in earnings from revenue.

A regrettable situation. I hope they get playing because watching my mate with his NBA highlights was largely what got me through GCSE-level I.T.

Yeah, the NBA tends to help me get through some of the rougher days. I just wish we had a hoop in the driveway so I could play more often.
